Science Experiment

We have been learning about matter in class. We conducted an experiment using solids and liquids. We wanted to see which solids would dissolve in liquid. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in materials to make this experiment happen. The kids had a blast. Science can be so fun!

Fire safety with Captain McAvoy

Last week my brother Captain Ryan McAvoy from Jacksonville Beach Fire Department came to talk to the kids about his job and teach them some very important fire safety rules! He gave the kids some fire safety homework. Please check your smoke alarm at home, practice a fire drill and help your child learn their address and phone number.  BloggerImage BloggerImage

Math games: five in a row!

The kids love learning new math games that help them build their math knowledge and fluency! They had so much fun playing five in a row with partners. Students were given a number cube and a dot cube which encouraged them to use the strategy of "counting on". We will be playing games like this when we start math centers next week.

Check out our awesome resource shirts!

HUGE thanks to Mrs. Bielan for taking on the project! The shirts turned out great and the kids love them!!

Math games: Double Compare

The kids had so much fun learning while playing double compare. Students were partnered up and given number cards. They had to flip over two cards and then add the total. Whoever had the higher total got to keep both sets of cards! This is a great game to play at home to build Math fluency. Let me know if you would like a set of number cards to play with at home.

Mrs. Park wins Duval County Teacher of the Year!

Two weeks ago, we went to the EDDY awards to support our Top 5 Finalist, Mrs. Kay Park (who also happens to have been my first grade teacher!). We all had a feeling that she might win because she is AMAZING! Well she WON! We are all so excited for this fabulous teacher and will be cheering her on as she goes on to compete for Florida Teacher of the Year in July! Yay Mrs. Park!
