Field trip to JCA

We had so much fun on our field trip to JCA to watch a Thanksgiving play. The kids learned a lot about the Pilgrims and their journey to America. Learning about Matter!

We have been learning all about Matter this week in Science. Today the kids went around the classroom to find objects to sort as a "solid, liquid or gas." 

Fire Safety with Captain McAvoy

My brother, Captain Ryan McAvoy from Jacksonville Beach Fire Department, was able to come in to teach the first grade students all about fire safety today. The kids had a blast and learned a lot of valuable information about what to do if your clothes or your house catch on fire. Students also received some "Fire Safety Homework". Please help your child complete these very important tasks at home. 

Special guest Chiroprator!

We had a very special guest come in today to talk with the kids about the spine. Dr. Alterman from Alterman and Johnson chiropractors brought in a display spine for the kids to look at and taught us more about how important our spine is. We are just finishing up our human body module, so it was awesome to hear the kids answer some of the questions that she had for them! I am so proud of all that they have learned about the body. Thanks again to the amazing Dr. Alterman!

Keeping healthy!

Last week, Sebastian's dad (who is a nurse) joined our class to teach us about staying healthy. He told us to make sure to wash our hands often and other fun tips. Thanks again Mr. Boehnke!

We have been observing our seeds for the past two weeks. We made predictions and wrote observations.

Speak up be safe with Mrs. Lundquist

Our school counselor, Mrs. Lundquist, came in to talk with the kids about some safety issues today. The program is call "Speak up Be Safe" and encourages children to speak up if they see something that isn't safe or okay. We discussed strangers and even cyber safety. They learned a lot of really important things today and I highly encourage you to talk with your child about it. The kids got lots of goodies to take home and share with you. Thanks again to Mrs. Lundquist for teaching us some really important life lessons! 

Field trip to Sweet Pete's

Wow- we had such a blast on our field trip to Sweet Pete's! The kids got to meet Pete, lear the Science behind making candy, make their own lollipops, and watch some candy being made! I know I will be going back there very soon to buy some of that delicious candy! Here are some photos from our trip.

Mem Fox Author study

Mem Fox is one of our favorite authors in class. We have been reading her books and learning about her this week. She is from Australia and uses many Australian animals in her books. My personal favorite book is "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge." It is about a sweet boy named Wilfrid who helps an elderly lady named Ms. Nancy "find" her memory again.

Dental presentation

Yesterday, we learned all about taking care of our teeth when we had some special visitors from a local pediatric dentist office come in. The kids had so much fun learning about healthy dental habits!

Multi-cultural Projects

The kids did such a great job on their "Children around the World" projects. They learned so many new facts about countries around the world. Thank you so much for helping your child complete their project at home.

SOUPer Bowl 2015

Some of the kids were able to go on WAES this week for SOUPer Bowl. We are currently in the lead with 160 cans!! Thank you so much for donating to a wonderful cause! The last day to donate is tomorrow.
